Classic shaker styling with a twist, achieved through a combination of timeless painted Porcelain with Natural Lancaster Oak, Solid Oak Worktops, and some clever bespoke cabinetry in this traditional kitchen in a lovely cottage in Shere.
This lovely cottage in the picturesque village of Shere was in need of a fresh new kitchen but vitally it had to be in-keeping with the rest of the cottage and the area as a whole. After approaching some of the national high street chains (and subsequently coming to somewhat of a design statemate) we were recommended to take a look and see how we could do things differently.

Space was at a premium and there was quite a bit we needed to fit in – more fridge space was needed, more drawers, laundry appliances, plus throwing into the mix a few of the original awkward nooks to design around and maximise storage as much as possible, whilst treading the fine line of not cramming too much in or compromising on the walkthrough spaces between cabinetry and the adjoining dining room.
An original half-height wall was removed and provided the space for a double sided peninsula with feature open bookcase facing the dining area. The main run features a full-height fridge freezer, large bespoke drawers, built-under multi-function oven with large modern induction hob, large blind corner storage, integrated dishwasher, traditional butler sink with lever bridge mixer tap, and freestanding washing machine.
One of the challenges we faced was to utilise a very awkward nook/return in the corner adjacent to the washing machine. Ample space and clearance was needed for the laundry, plus the reduced depth to the left of the chimney breast made filling this area with any functional cabinetry tricky. We opted for a bespoke narrow and reduced depth pull-out spice rack.
The redundent fireplace previously had an off-the-shelf wine rack so was another area that wasn’t reaching it’s full potential against the rest of the kitchen. We designed and built a bespoke double X-Box wine rack with wall-mounted glass shelf for displaying decorative pieces plus to allow the new LED spot light to fill this void, lighting up what was once a dark, and unloved area.
Our best-selling Aldana range provides the much needed traditional style with the skinny shaker profile providing a very subtle hint of modern contemporary furniture. Painted in Porcelain, and paired with Natural Lancaster Oak cabinets and matching bespoke drawerboxes, chunky solid Oak worktops, and illuminated glazed display wall unit gives a light and airy vibe to this warm traditional cottage style kitchen.
